Kilkerrin-Clonberne swat aside all foes en route to second All-Ireland title

GOOD teams win All-Irelands but great teams go on to retain them.

That’s the line often bandied around and there can be little doubt now (as if there was any in the first place) that this Kilkerrin-Clonberne side are a truly great outfit.

Ten county titles in-a-row, five successive Connacht crowns and they’ve further enhanced their reputation by winning two All-Ireland’s in the calendar year.

The statistics behind this run to Croke Park have been frightening. In knockout action, across the six fixtures from their Galway semi-final to their date with destiny against Donaghmoyne, Kilkerrin-Clonberne scored 6-87 and conceded a mere 2-27. Their concession rate across those fixtures reads a scary believable 1-3, 0-3, 1-8, 0-4, 0-2 and 0-7.

Even the Baltic conditions at the Jones Road venue did little to halt Kilkerrin-Clonberne’s swagger as the 10-in-a-row Galway champions faced the 20-in-a-row Monaghan pacesetters Donaghmoyne…
