Number of home break-ins reported in Galway is up

THERE has been a 12 per cent increase in the reporting of burglaries in Galway this year compared to figures for the same period in 2021.

The increase in Galway was highlighted by PhoneWatch in their annual burglary report this week, which is based on data from the CSO over the last 10 years.

The good news for homeowners is that the majority of houses will never be broken into. The CSO data tells us that one in every 10 homes in the country has experienced a burglary incident of some description in the last 10 years, with a total of 182,609 burglaries reported across the country in that time.

The increase in home invasions at this time of year in North Galway and elsewhere is inevitable and sad, but there is an app which can assist people if this harrowing experience does come to their door...
