Fifth Connacht title in-a-row for Kilkerrin-Clonberne

THESE are unprecedented times in Galway ladies football. Never before has a team dominated the local club landscape in the manner that Kilkerrin-Clonberne are currently. And it's only the remarkable achievements of Carnacon - complete with their 19 Mayo, 16 Connacht and six All-Ireland titles - that have surpassed them inside Connacht.

On Sunday afternoon, in the wind and rain at Fr. O'Hara Park in Charlestown, Willie Ward's side added another major milestone to their modern-day roll of honour when sweeping past the challenge of first-time Mayo winners Burrishoole and capturing a fifth straight Connacht Senior Club Football Championship crown.

The manager's daughter and team captain, All-Star midfielder Louise Ward, put the achievement into words as the North Galway club underlined their status as the dominant team in the west with a 15-point margin of victory.

"Five in-a-row in Connacht, even ten in-a-row in Galway was history for our club," Louise told Herald Sport afterwards...
