Road near Williamstown becomes impassable

GALWAY County Council has had to foot the bill to clean up what local councillors described as “the worst ever” incidence of illegal dumping in the Williamstown area.

Staff from the local authority had to be called after residents discovered a mound of rubbish tipped in the middle of a rural roadway which was blocking the route.

The dumping not only included household waste strewn across the road, but there were also full-size waste collection bins included.

The Council spend hundreds of thousands of euro each year in clean-up operations throughout the county where rural areas have been targeted by indiscriminate dumpers.

It’s understood that the waste dumped near Williamstown included several items with Dublin addresses. Local councillors have vowed to support the Council in every step they have to take to bring those responsible before the courts…
