Novel ‘Sponsor a Slate’ fundraiser launched

EFFORTS to restore a former schoolhouse on the outskirts of Tuam have stepped up a gear with the launch of a fundraising drive this week.

The Old Gardenfield School Committee has launched 'Sponsor a Slate', which aims to raise €10,000.

While the building is not of architectural significance, it has played a key role in community life for generations and has enjoyed the support of local residents who have been active in maintaining it.

In recent years it has been home to Santa’s Grotto, while the committee has also run a very successful Easter Egg hunt from the schoolhouse.

The fundraiser hopes to enable the repair works to restore the roof of the building, which was built in 1886...
