Strong Galway contingent heading to Ploughing Championships

GALWAY County Ploughing Secretary Maura Canning at last year’s National Ploughing Championships.

A TEAM of 13 are set to represent Galway across the various ploughing classes at the National Ploughing Championships.

Not only does the event in Ratheniska, Co Laois, next week signal the return of the hugely popular agricultural show extraordinaire, it also acts as a hosting point for the 67th World Ploughing Contest. Delegations from up to 28 countries are expected to visit the 900-acre site in the Midlands over the three days of September 20, 21 and 22.

A clutch of the Galway ploughers were in Ratheniska last week at the preview launch for the Ploughing Championships. Among that group was Maura Canning, Secretary of Galway County Ploughing, who will be dissecting the ground with her tractor and plough next week…
