Owners of Athenry nursing home ‘heartbroken’

THE owners of an Athenry nursing home say they are “heartbroken” that they’ve had to take the decision to close.

Castleturvin House Nursing Home on the outskirts of Athenry has given notice to HIQA of its intention to cease operating as a nursing home.

The news comes just a week after the West Region representative of Nursing Homes Ireland warned in The Tuam Herald that there would be nursing home casualties in the West unless government intervened.

In a statement, Carmel, Clodagh and Erin Killeen said after 21 years in business it was with great sadness that they have had to take the decision to close the 42-bedroom nursing home.

“Like many other smaller family-run, local community-based nursing homes, our nursing home has struggled against increasing cost pressure, including regulatory cost pressures, to continue to provide the best model of care for our residents …”
