Discussion ongoing re merger of Tuam’s girls’ schools

ST Jarlath’s College in Tuam will begin enrolling girl students for the first time in its 222-year history from next September.

The Department of Education has now approved the school’s request to become a co-educational facility. At meeting on Monday night, the school’s Board of Management agreed that this would begin from the start of the new academic year 2023-24.

Principal of St Jarlath’s College John Kelly told The Tuam Herald that they have been in discussions with the Department of Education regarding immediate and more long-term works that will be required. Funding is being provided in relation to changing rooms and toilets while Home Economics will be offered as a subject from next September…
