Tuam man is looking forward to the challenge

TUAM’S own Mike Gilligan has been selected as part of a 14-person strong Team Ireland ahead of the forthcoming European Transplant and Dialysis Games to be held in Oxford, England from August 21-28.

The 56-year-old will be competing in the 30km cycling race, in the 50-60 age category, and is looking forward to this unique opportunity to represent his country on the international stage.

There has been a history of kidney disease in Mike’s family which he has been aware of from a young age.

He received a kidney transplant back in 2017 following a four-year wait, but on April 1 of this year he was forced to resume dialysis after his body began to reject the kidney ......
