Sunflower field blooms and brings hope to its visitors

Second-year anniversary of tragedy next week

IT WAS a beautiful, sunny Monday morning in North Donegal as Geraldine Mullan tended to a paddock of sunflowers.

Geraldine, originally from Williamstown, suffered the tragic loss of her husband John, son Tomás and daughter Amelia, when the vehicle the family were driving in went into the waters of Lough Foyle at Quigley’s Point in Donegal on August 20 of 2020. The second anniversary of that harrowing event is Saturday week.

In July of last year, Geraldine opened the Mullan Hope Centre in Moville, where she lives, in honour of her beautiful family.

This year, Geraldine has undertaken a project involving a field beside the Atlantic Ocean, a two-and-a-half-acre holding that she has populated with sunflowers with the help of her friends and named the ‘Field of HOPE’ ...
