Council’s friendly approach to tackling dog fouling

Local authority launches new scheme

GALWAY County Council has unveiled a fresh initiative to add to their overall anti-dog fouling strategy which they hope will encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets.

The Green Dog Walkers campaign was launched in Athenry last Wednesday and aims to take a “friendly” approach to tackling dog fouling issues countywide.

Dog owners are being asked to sign up and take a project “pledge” that will see all applicants provided with free Hi-Vis vests and doggie bags.

By adhering to the pledge, volunteers agree to wear the green vest as often as possible when walking their dogs; that they will clean up any waste that their dogs produce and dispose of it in the bin; and encourage other dogs owners to remove their animal’s waste in a non-aggressive and non-confrontational manner …
