BLOOMSDAY was celebrated on June 16 by Skehana and District Heritage Group. THE spirit of Nora Barnacle brought James Joyce to life for a packed audience on Bloomsday in the North Galway countryside last Thursday.

As the swallows zoomed after insects in the evening sky, in the old Owens barn at Ballagh, Menlough, members and guests of the Skehana and District Heritage Group read extracts from Ulysses.

It was a mild evening, fortunately for the overflow audience who sat outside.

Many frankly admitted that if they had started the book they had not finished it, but by the end of the evening the general feeling was that some of the mystery had been revealed…
