Thousands pay their respects for ‘one of a kind’ Kate

Talented camogie player laid to rest last Friday

THE utter devastation felt among the people of Galway last week at the passing of 20-year-old Kate Moran was impossible to miss.

“One of a kind” was how one family friend described the talented camogie player, who passed away following a freak accident during a camogie senior league game between Ardrahan and her club Athenry on the April Bank Holiday Monday.

Shock and disbelief were the feelings that washed over most upon hearing the news of this heart-breaking tragedy, along with a sense of sorrow for her family, teammates and many, many friends who are left behind to mourn Kate’s loss.

“She was a bubbly, lovely girl,” described a mentor. “When Kate would come into a room, she would give a smile and it would light up the place. A lovely friendly girl who, when the Almighty wanted someone good, he came for Kate.”

The young sporting star had previously played for Galway at U-16 level, won two All-Ireland medals and also represented her club at senior level...
