Belclare ewe produces her 31st lamb in seven seasons

PERHAPS the most fertile ewe in the country, and potentially further afield, has given birth in Athenry again, with her four new offspring taking her total to 31 lambs since 2016.

The Belclare ewe is kept at Teagasc’s Mellows Campus in Athenry. She was born in 2014 and, since 2016, she has given birth to clutches of five, three, six, six, two, five and now four lambs.
