Tuam native in Ukraine offers helping hand

TUAM’S TOMMY BYRNE is playing an important role in transporting vital supplies across the Polish-Ukrainian border, and he’s been linking in with people from Oranmore, Annaghdown, Ballygar and other places in Ireland who want to do their bit to help the war effort in Eastern Europe.

Sunday marked Tommy’s fourth week of living in Przemysl, a Polish city located eight miles from Ukraine. It has become the focal point for incoming drops of medical supplies, food, clothes and other items, coming from western Europe for onward transportation to Ukraine.

Przemysl has up to 50 distribution hubs, and one main refugee camp that Ukrainians have been travelling to since February 24 when the Russian invasion began.
