North Galway start-up aims to eradicate paper receipts

Entrepreneurs hope to have Receipt Relay in 100 businesses in Galway by summer

AN ENTERPRISING start-up that seeks to rid the scourge of paper receipts from both businesses and customers pockets is taking flight, with three young north Galway entrepreneurs at the helm.

Receipt Relay is a new venture by third-level students Joe Hennigan from Corofin, Sean Finnegan from Sylane and Moycullen man Luke Slemon.

The concept involves customers downloading the Receipt Relay app to scan a QR code at the till, which uploads the receipt. The technology removes the need for paper receipts and also bypasses the need to send digitised receipts to email addresses.

While some businesses offer customers the option of a digitised email receipt, less than one per cent of receipts are currently accepted by this method as people are reluctant to offer up their privacy.
