Galway dog shelter is struggling to cope

Madra Galway spokesperson says that "the deluge of dogs coming in is just unbelievable".

FROM being inundated with requests to adopt dogs from their rescue at the beginning of Covid, a Galway dog shelter is now struggling to cope with the sheer number of animals being brought to their kennels by owners who are no longer capable of caring for their pets.

As a result of the increase in unwanted dogs, Madra Galway has even been forced to approach five external kennel providers to house the 91 dogs currently in their care.

Spokesperson for Madra, Marina Fiddler told The Tuam Herald that it has been a decade since they’ve experienced the sheer level of people who are currently putting their dogs up for adoption...
