Excavation of Tuam Home site could start this year

Campaigner both relieved and happy with Government announcement

WORK on the excavation of the site of the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home and the exhumation of the human remains there could begin before the end of this year.

The long-awaited legislation necessary to excavate the site at the Dublin Road and exhume and possibly identify the remains of hundreds of infants and babies there has been published by Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman.

It comes five years after it was confirmed that extensive human remains of infants were found at the site...
