Galway champions survive major scare

THEY had to come from six points down and needed a perfectly timed tackle, one of the best you'll ever see, from John Daly at the death to confirm victory, but it was nonetheless 'mission accomplished' for Mountbellew-Moylough despite a major scare in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday.

Speaking to Herald Sport afterwards, Val Daly wasn't surprised that Mountbellew-Moylough took time to find their feet after their county final exploits of a week earlier and was proud of his side's comeback.

"A win is a win at the end of the day,” said Daly. “This is the first time a Mountbellew senior team has won a game in Connacht, which is a milestone for us, and we're thrilled about it. We had a very emotional weekend last weekend and a very emotional couple of days. I suppose being an oul' dog for the hard road, I knew it would take us a while to get going. I didn't think it would take us a whole half an hour to maybe get going into our groove, but in fairness I asked lads for one big effort at half-time."
