Work starts on €7million Aldi store in Mountbellew

CONSTRUCTION work has started on a new €7 million Aldi supermarket in Mountbellew.

The development will bring up to 30 new jobs to the area and the store is expected to open sometime next year.

Located on the main thoroughfare of the town, on the College Road, the store will be powered completely by renewable electricity.

The store is part of a larger development being built by Cahermorris Developments and includes a filling station and residential units.

Construction is also due to start before the end of the year on Aldi’s store in Tuam while a planning decision is due on its plans for a new store in Athenry.

Colin Breslin, Aldi Regional Managing Director said: “We are delighted to break ground at the site of our new Mountbellew store and we can’t wait to bring our amazing range of groceries to even more customers. The store will also provide further opportunities for local food and drink producers to work with Aldi. Last year, we sourced €28 million of locally produced food and drink from our Co. Galway based suppliers.”
