Electric fleet replaces pedal power for Tuam’s postal deliveries

Increase in packages from online shopping

SEEING Ja Fallon cycling around Tuam delivering the post is likely to become a thing of the past.

That’s because An Post have had six Electric Vehicle (EV) vans operating in the town since the end of July. The vans are Renault Kangoos and are on the roads of Tuam on a trial basis.

While five bikes are being stored in An Post’s Delivery Service Unit on the Galway Road in Tuam, given that everything is motoring smoothly so far with the vans, the likelihood is that they are here to stay.

“The boys love them. Because they’re fit for purpose and automatic, there is no gear changes with them,” said Jimmy O’Dea, Delivery Services Manager at the Galway Road Unit.
