Your County Your Colours honour Greenpark staff

A SPECIAL county jersey has been presented to the staff of Greenpark Nursing Home as part of an initiative aimed at acknowledging the work of healthcare workers during the pandemic.

The framed jersey and message were presented by Merit Medical Galway who were the main sponsors of a country-wide initiative ‘Your County, your Colours’ led by former inter-county player and Galway Bay fm GAA commentator Tommy Devane.

Over the past number of months all 32 county GAA boards supplied a county jersey accompanied by a short message of thanks. The jerseys and message were framed and sent to the hospital or care setting of the county’s choice. The chosen location for the Galway jersey was University Hospital Galway.

However, Merit Medical made a special request that once all of the jerseys were delivered that one final delivery be made to the care setting where a former colleague of theirs is being cared for, Greenpark Nursing Home in Tuam.

Greenpark Nursing Home piques a particular interest with the employees of Merit Medical, Galway, as former employee Shane Grogan now resides there. Nine years ago, during Galway Race Week, Shane was left with life changing injuries following an assault in the town.

Karen Smyth, Communications Leader with Merit Medical said: “Employees at Merit Medical have never forgotten our colleague, Shane Grogan. We see the ‘Your County, Your Colours’ as a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of the Frontline workers in Greenpark nursing home. This is just a small token of appreciation of their efforts, they do an amazing job not just during the pandemic but every day.”

On behalf of the Grogan family, Shane’s father Joe relayed his thanks most sincerely to the management and staff of Merit Medical for the presentation.

“A special word of thanks to the Accounts Department, where Shane worked prior to his injury. They have always kept Shane foremost in their thoughts and hopefully, the visits will start again soon. We would like to acknowledge all the staff at Greenpark Nursing Home for their efforts over the last few months. Thank you to Tommy Devane for this wonderful initiative.

“We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful doctors and staff at the Shannon Ward in UHG for taking such good care of Shane during his ten-day stay with them.”

Brian McNamara, Greenpark NH said: “We would like to sincerely thank Merit Medical, along with ‘Your County Your Colours’ for this wonderful gift. We are honoured to have been thought of in this manner and it is our privilege to look after Merit’s colleague Shane Grogan. In our caring for Shane, there will always be a special bond between Merit Medical and Greenpark Nursing Home.”
