Hession goes for gold

MONIVEA Boxing Club star Adam Hession will have a chance to win a gold medal this Thursday after reaching the bantamweight division final of the European Under-22 Championships.

Hession had guaranteed himself at least a bronze medal after recording a unanimous points victory over Germany’s Bashir Bajwa in Monday’s quarter finals, having previously beaten Gabor Virban of Hungary on a judge’s score of 5-0 in the round of 16.

Expert commentary described the 21-year-old’s semi-final win over the German as “the performance of his career” so far and praised his counter punches, quickness of feet and aggressive combination punching, that forcing his opponent into a standing eight count, as the main factors in his triumph.
