A memorable day as Glenamaddy man takes County chain of office

IT’S rare that the incoming Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council gets to be inaugurated in his home town. But that was one upside to Covid restrictions for Glenamaddy’s Peter Keaveney, who was elected to the chair at a plenary meeting of the local authority held in Glenamaddy Community School on Friday afternoon.

The Fine Gael councillor takes over from Independent Cllr James Charity from Corrandulla. Independent Cllr Jim Cuddy is the new Leas-Chathaoirleach. “There are some special days in your life that you’ll always remember and this was certainly one of them,” Cllr Keaveney told The Tuam Herald. He has been inundated with well wishes over the weekend. “It’s been incredible to be honest.”
