Schoolgirls bake their way to success in culinary contest

TWO schoolgirls from Brownsgrove and Cummer have cycled away with the top prizes in a novel competition where they were named star bakers at Archbishop McHale College, Tuam.

Eliza Kane from Cummer National School claimed first place in this year’s Bake Me Proud Junior competition with her vegan Carrot Cake, while Blanka Buknicz from Brownsgrove National School was crowned the senior winner of the contest for her lemon and lime sponge.

Both girls won bicycles, while runners up in each category received One4All vouchers and baking equipment.

The event, which was launched last year, was held virtually, with over 90 young bakers from primary schools throughout the Tuam region taking part.
