Footballers draw Roscommon in Connacht SFC semi-final

IF Galway are to get their hands on the JJ Nestor Cup this summer, they'll have to do it the hard way after being paired with Roscommon at the semi-final stage of the Connacht Senior Football Championship.

The draw was conducted live on Monday evening's Six One News on RTÉ and though dates, times and venues for this year's competition have yet to officially confirmed by Connacht GAA, Padraic Joyce's team will need to defeat their eastern neighbours at Dr Hyde Park before in all probability embarking on another road-trip to MacHale Park, Castlebar for a final date with reigning champions Mayo.

The eventual All-Ireland runners-up defeated Galway by a solitary point, 0-14 to 0-13, in November to claim a first provincial title since 2015. James Horan's team will meet Sligo in the quarter-final, with the winners playing Leitrim in the last four. London and New York are not taking part in this year's Championship due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. The provincial football championships are due to commence on the weekend of June 26-27 and the Connacht final is down for decision on July 24-25.
