Young Lavally student is Aontú’s new voice in Tuam and Galway East

A YOUNG student from the rural outskirts of Tuam is “putting the head down” and getting to work as an election candidate for the Aontú party.

Twenty-three-year-old Luke Silke from Cloondahamper, Lavally admits that he comes from Fianna Fáil blood but joined Aontú not long after it was formed in 2019 as he was disillusioned with Micheal Martin’s party leadership.

Silke’s selection as the Aontu representative in Galway East comes as former Tuam Town Councillor Martin Ward, who ran in the General Election for Aontu in last year, is taking a step back from politics.
