Gardai believe dogs and puppies seized in Athenry were stolen

GARDAI in Athenry have seized 12 dogs and five puppies, believed to be stolen, near the town.
The animals were seized shortly after 10am on Monday when Gardaí searched a number of vehicles in the Kiltullagh area.
The dogs seized are of a variety of breeds. During the course of the search five Golden Labrador puppies, a black Lurcher, two Chihuahuas, three Collie-cross, two Springer Spaniels, a Foxhound Beagle, a Terrier, a Cocker Spaniel and a setter were found in three separate vehicles.
Gardaí believe these dogs may be stolen and are anxious to return the dogs and pups to their rightful owners.
An appeal has been launched to anyone who may be missing a dog or who may have had a dog stolen recently matching the description of these dogs and puppies to contact Athenry Garda Station on 091-844016 or Galway Garda Station on 091-538000.
Dog thefts have been a particular problem during the pandemic but there haven’t been significant numbers reported in the Galway area to date. No arrests have been made in relation to the Athenry seizures and investigations are continuing.
