‘We had chances and didn’t take them’

IT was impossible to shake the view that the 82nd instalment of Galway and Mayo in the Connacht Senior Football Championship was the most important clash between the counties in over two decades.
“We’ve no one to blame but ourselves, to be honest,” said Galway manager Joyce afterwards. “Thirteen points is not good enough to win any game. We just fell short at the end, but we weren’t clinical enough. We had the chances and didn’t take them.
"There’s nothing we can do, it’s knockout football. We’ll learn huge lessons from it. And the lads themselves will look at their performances and re-evaluate what they’re at and what they’re at going forward.
