It’s a wide-open race in the Intermediate Championship

SUDDEN-DEATH shootouts, last-gasp equalisers and high-wire drama — the business end of recent Intermediate Football Championships have had just about everything.
Oughterard and Micheál Breathnach treated supporters to a nail-biting, white-knuckle ride in last year’s final replay, a clash that was breathless to the last, and would rank high among the most entertaining played at club level in Galway in modern times.
Not that it detracted in any way but regardless of who lifted the John Cotter Cup, both clubs were already guaranteed promotion to senior ranks. No such consolation prize or safety net exists for the defeated finalists this time around, however. It’s strictly winner-takes-all.
