A man for all seasons

HE’S VERY much the public face of Tuam Tidy Towns, and from his work in nurturing the town’s eye-catching array of flowerboxes and his role in rehabilitating the River Nanny, to the ‘wilding’ of a plot of disused land along the bypass at Airglooney and ambitious plans to transform the town centre into an attractive pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly shopping hub, Tuam can count itself lucky to have Michael Waldron, with his strong sense of civic pride, spearheading the drive towards urban preservation and regeneration.
Adamant that he is part of a team, when approached for this interview he expressed concern that he would be seen as hogging the limelight. Such is his contribution to the civic wellbeing of his beloved hometown, however, that we feel confident nobody will begrudge this tireless worker his well-deserved day in the sun.
