Sean sang beside the fire

OVER the August Bank Holiday weekend folk fans came from places as far apart as Berlin and Boston to hear Sean Keane sing and play by the fireside in his family’s ancestral thatched cottage in Caherlistrane.
This was the first in a series of intimate concerts beside the open fire in the Keane family home where Sean’s famous aunts, the sean nós singers Rita and Sarah, lived all their lives and where his parents and grandparents were born.
Sean sang his songs, played the tin whistle and flute and encouraged any of the fans that wished to join in.
A German man asked for two spoons, which were quickly provided, and he used them to play along with Sean on a lively Irish reel.
