Proposal to honour Tuam’s Tom Murphy with plaque

TUAM playwright Tom Murphy is to be honoured with a plaque in the town library, following broad agreement for the plan at the Municipal District Council this week.

The proposal by the Old Tuam Society was submitted through the council’s conservation officer Mairin Doddy for consideration by the members at a meeting on Monday.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Donagh Killilea said that while he was in favour of renaming the library building after the acclaimed writer and dramatist, there was no protocol for such matters since the demise of Tuam Town Council.
