Fresh faces drafted in by Galway

TOURLESTRANE will be the venue this evening (Wednesday) for the Galway senior footballers' annual season opener with Sligo in the FBD Connacht League (throw-in: 7pm)

It's the first of two fixtures in the space of four days for Kevin Walsh's side, with Mayo their next opponents at MacHale Park, Castlebar on Sunday afternoon (2pm).
The FBD competition has been revamped for 2018. Gone is the two-group structure, as well as the involvement of third-level colleges - NUI Galway, GMIT and IT Sligo - making it a 'county-only' competition played on a round-robin basis with the top two qualifying for the final.

The Galway team to play Sligo: Rónán Boland (Micheál Breathnach); Declan Kyne (Clonbur), Seán Andy Ó Ceallaigh (Naomh Ánna, Leitir Móir), Evan Wynne (Salthill-Knocknacarra); Cathal Sweeney (Killannin), Johnny Duane (St James'), David Wynne (Moycullen); Tom Flynn (Athenry), Ciaran Duggan (Annaghdown); John Maher (Salthill-Knocknacarra), Peter Cooke (Moycullen), Sean Kelly (Moycullen); Frankie Burke (Annaghdown), Patrick Sweeney (Killannin), Adrian Varley (Cortoon Shamrocks).
