Athenry joy turns to frustration

CELEBRATIONS have turned to renewed frustration in Athenry days after a judicial ruling gave Apple the green light to develop an €850m data centre in the town.

Beeping traffic acknowledged members of the Athenry for Apple campaign group who spilled on to the street to celebrate the Commercial Court’s decision last Thursday.
On Tuesday afternoon two objectors to the development, Allan Daly and Sinead Fitzpatrick, returned to the court to appeal the ruling. The application will be heard next Friday, October 25.
Apple for Athenry spokesperson Paul Keane said he was extremely disappointed by not surprised by Tuesday’s development.
