Alan will run his first marathon in New York for kids’ hospital

A TUAM man going to New York City for the first time in November will get little chance to take in its delights as he pounds the streets while taking part in the biggest marathon in the world.

Running a marathon is another first for Alan Dooley, Meetings and Events Coordinator of The Clayton Hotel in Galway City, but it’s all for a good cause.
He admits it was a combination of a New Year’s resolution and a desire to take part in the company’s charity that led to him signing up to running this year’s NYC marathon, a popular international event that received over 98,000 entries this year – only 34,000 managed to get a place to take part in the event.
Alan, who celebrates his 39th birthday on Sunday, the day of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship, has been training diligently since he decided to run it and has adapted his diet and general lifestyle.
