Club championships resume

AS the Galway minor and senior hurlers continue to fine-tune their preparations ahead of September 3, action on the local sporting front switches this weekend to the resumption of the local club football championships.

All-Ireland football semi-finals in Croke Park will take centre-stage nationally on Saturday and Sunday, but it promises to be a pivotal weekend for a whole host of clubs with a total of 12 matches scheduled across senior and intermediate after the competitions come out of their ten-week hibernation.
Six senior matches are down for decision and by close of business late Sunday afternoon - barring draws, that is - just nine clubs will remain in contention to lift the Frank Fox Cup.
Tuam Stadium should attract plenty of neutral interest on Saturday with two of the weekend's standout senior ties as Tuam Stars take on Caherlistrane, followed by Milltown and Mountbellew-Moylough.
