Fr Kitt says Mass for his 100th birthday

MOUNTBELLEW’S centenarian priest Canon Liam Kitt celebrated his 100th birthday by celebrating Mass for his extended family, neighbours and friends at his home in Grattan Park, Mountbellew on Sunday.
And he was up at 6 am that day to get ready for the occasion.
“I get up at 7 or 8 am most days but on Sunday my schedule was closer to American time as I was up from 6 am to 6 pm,” said Canon Kitt with a laugh.
He started his priestly life for one year in Kilconly, Tuam, and after that spent over 40 years ministering in five different parishes in the USA.
“It was during the war year of 1944 that I sailed on the Queen Mary to the USA and it took us ten days to get there.'
