Corofin, Salthill favourites on SFC semi-final Sunday

THE CONCLUDING stages of the Galway Senior and Intermediate Football Championships take centre stage this weekend as the business end of both competitions look set to attract large crowds through the turnstiles at Tuam Stadium and Pearse Stadium.
Sunday afternoon’s senior semi-final double-header at Tuam Stadium holds plenty of appeal with Corofin’s clash with Mountbellew-Moylough, a repeat of year’s final, preceded by the meeting of Cortoon Shamrocks and Salthill-Knocknacarra.
On Saturday evening at Pearse Stadium, Monivea-Abbey will take on Kilkerrin-Clonberne in the County Intermediate Championship final with the Cotter Cup and senior football in 2017 the prizes at stake for the victor (4.45 pm).
The divisional finals at junior level are both scheduled for Saturday afternoon, too, with St Gabriel’s up against Mountbellew-Moylough in the North Board final in Monivea (1 pm), and Oranmore-Maree meeting Moycullen in the West Board decider at Pearse Stadium (3 pm) — the latter a curtain-raiser to the intermediate final.
