Red tape slowing Galway's social housing provision to a crawl

THERE are only about 120 social houses in the pipeline for Co Galway and despite an ambitious announcement last year that €58 million was to be allocated to the city and county to knock up to 30 per cent off the growing waiting lists, it now appears the lists will grow longer before any inroads can be made.
There are currently 3,500 applications for houses on the Co Council waiting list. The city figure is even higher. Up to nine people a week are now presenting themselves to the Co Council each week as homeless.
