Calls for branch of National Museum to be in Co Galway

A BRANCH of the National Museum should be located in Galway so that artefacts discovered locally can be put on display in their own place rather than having most shipped off to Dublin to be stored away in boxes where no one can view them.
The call came at a meeting of Galway Co Council when Galway’s bid to host the European Capital of Culture 2020 were being discussed at the May meeting.
Athenry-based Cllr Peter Feeney felt that Galway was operating at a disadvantage when it came to culture as the city and county are on the periphery and neglected when it comes to investment in cultural infrastructure.
