Gardenfield flooding solution 'not as simple' as a pipe along bypass

A PERMANENT solution to flooding in the Gardenfield area may not lie in piping water along the new Tuam bypass, according to a senior council official.
Severe flooding in Ardacong and Gardenfield earlier this year threatened up to 15 homes and led to the installation of a temporary dam by the Office of Public Works.
Residents have met with council and OPW officials to press the case for piping to be installed during the construction of the bypass that would channel floodwater to the River Clare.
However, Director of Services Liam Gavin told a meeting of Tuam Municipal District Council that a pipeline would only move the problem from one area to another.
