City sluice gates flood county - cllrs

MUCH of the flooding that frequently hits areas of North Galway “from Ballindooley to Corofin” can be blamed on nobody being willing to take responsibility for raising and lowering the sluice gates on the River Corrib in Galway City. So said Co Councillors at a meeting of the Athenry-Oranmore Municipal Authority yesterday (Tuesday).
The lowering of the gates is causing the water levels in Lough Corrib and on the Clare River to rise to such an extent during heavy rain that it is causing a backing up of water in Claregalway, according to Cllr Malachy Noone.
