Galway outgun the Rebels in league opener

By Cian O’Connell
At Pearse Stadium

THOUGH it remains extremely early in the year there still was no escaping the sense of promise and satisfaction as Galway claimed an Allianz Hurling League Division 1A victory over Cork at Pearse Stadium.
Micheál Donoghue’s first serious inter-county fixture in charge culminated in a deserved triumph for Galway, who ruled the majority of this match. Such was their supremacy Donoghue’s team had 45 shots throughout the game highlighting just how fluid this display was.
It mightn’t have been the most revealing encounter, but Galway did more than enough to suggest that the 2016 adventure will be interesting. Donoghue is anxious to improve the depth of the Galway panel with corner back Paul Hoban making an impression, while the form of the returning Niall Burke and Davy Glennon added to the feel-good factor.
