The gentleman of Galway East politics rings last bell on Dail career
FOR the first election in almost 70 years there will be no Kitt name on the ballot paper in Galway.
This week Castleblakney-based Fianna Fail TD Michael Kitt bids farewell to the Houses of the Oireachtas where he has spent 41 years serving his constituents.
Michael first entered the Dail in 1975 when he won a by-election caused by the death of his father Michael Snr, who was first elected in 1948.
There is nostalgia in traditional Fianna Fail circles at what appears to be the end of the Kitt political dynasty in East Galway, presided over for decades by the formidable Bridie Kitt, Michael’s mother.
All Michael would say on this matter was he wouldn’t rule anything in or out in the future, but his own children were busy with their careers right now.
