New Glinsk parish priest Fr Larry says he is 'Black Irish’

'I’M one of the black Irish” laughed North East Galway’s first Nigerian cleric, Fr Larry Ebuck MSP, who celebrated his first masses in his new parish of Glinsk-Kilbegnet at the weekend.
Having spent ten years in Texas and the last few years in the Caribbean, he was welcomed by Bert Curley, Chairperson of the Parish Council, who said he would “see plenty of water” but less sun here.
With a bubbly personality, the talkative Nigerian explained about being “black Irish” by saying that he was educated spiritually and academically by members of St Patrick’s Missionaries, Kiltegan, while growing up in Africa.
“I received so much from the Irish missionaries in my homeland that it is time to give back something to the country that contributed to our care and education,” says Fr Larry.
He told The Tuam Herald that he is now one of six Nigerian priests ministering in Ireland. The nearest to him has been appointed to Longford.
