Ireland’s oldest person was from Caherlistrane

IRELAND’S oldest person, Molly Madden (née Keane) who was laid to rest on Monday, was a native of Caherlistrane and a cousin of the famous singing Keane family.
Molly was born in Shancloon, a village between Caherlistrane and Kilconly, on December 8, 1906 and at 109 was Ireland’s oldest citizen.
Another of her cousins, Tom Cradock and his wife Mary, attended her funeral in Ballycastle Cemetery, Mayo earlier this week.
Tom says that Molly, who was a second cousin of his grandfather, was also a second cousin of Sarah, Rita and Matt Keane (Snr) and their siblings.
