Demand sparks year-long wait for electrician courses

THE demand for training courses for electricians and mechanics across Galway has reached a new peak with a one-year waiting list.
However, there hasn’t been a similar surge in interest in the plumbing trade, with courses having to be cancelled in some instances.
The Manager of the Mervue Training Centre Ken Farragher, says that so great is the demand for apprentices wishing to get into the stage two electrical course that there is a one-year waiting list.
After the bust of the Celtic Tiger era the statistics show that as many as 3,000 to 4,000 apprentices in the Galway-Roscommon area were made redundant.
