Fine blitz spoils the festive free parking in Tuam

ANGRY Tuam business people, and shoppers, are vexed at what one businessman described as “a blitz of parking fines” leading up to Christmas when some meters were still taking money for parking at times when there was supposed to be free parking.
One businessman who has been parking his vehicle in a laneway at the side of his premises “for years” had a parking ticket “slapped” on it “in the middle the so called free parking period” he said. He has written to the Co Council to complain and says he will not pay the fine.
“If this is the way they are treating both the business people and the customers coming into Tuam for Christmas it is a disgrace,” he added.
Another Tuam trader said she was in her son’s car at a time when she says he “ran in to leave his clothes at the dry cleaners on Vicar Street” but the traffic warden “ran across the road” and put a parking ticket on his car just as he was coming “out the door.”
