Sophie hopeful of positive result having shared her Scoliosis story
A TUAM secondary school student hopes that something positive will come from her highlighting her long struggle to have her spine curvature operated on.
Sophie O’Grady, a student at Presentation College, Currylea, has appeared in the national media over the past week where she and her mum spoke of the stress and despair they have endured waiting two years for an operation to correct Sophie’s severe Scoliosis (curvature of spine).
The 15-year-old Corofin girl says the pain from the 80 degree curvature of her spine has forced her to stay off school recently but she told The Tuam Herald that she hopes to be back in class later this week.
She was first diagnosed with the condition in February 2014 and while she was quickly added to the surgical waiting list in March, she hasn’t seen her consultant in over a year and hasn’t been given a follow-up or monitoring appointment.
